| Epiphyseal Plate | A cartilage layer at the ends of long bones where bone lengthening occurs during growth. |
| Synovial Joint | A freely movable joint enclosed by a fluid-filled capsule, such as the knee or shoulder. |
| Sarcomere | The smallest functional unit of skeletal muscle fiber where actin and myosin interact to produce contraction. |
| Neuromuscular Junction (NMJ) | The specialized synapse where a motor neuron communicates with a skeletal muscle fiber using acetylcholine. |
| Acetylcholine (ACh) | A neurotransmitter released at neuromuscular junctions to trigger muscle fiber activation. |
| Myelin | A fatty insulating layer around some axons that speeds up nerve impulse conduction. |
| Action Potential | A rapid change in membrane charge that travels along a neuron as an electrical signal. |
| Synapse | The communication junction between two neurons or between a neuron and an effector cell. |
| Reflex Arc | The simplest nerve pathway, involving a sensory neuron, an integration center, and a motor neuron that produces a quick automatic response. |
