Force Vocabulary

Force A push or pull
Unbalanced Force A force that is not equal on both sides and causes an object to move
Balanced Forces Equal forces acting on an object; the object does not move
Net force The total amount of force acting on an object ; you add or subtract forces depending on their direction
Newtons first law An object at rest will stay at rest and an object in motion will stay in motion unless a force acts on it.
Inertia The resistance to a change in motion
Gravity A force that pulls objects toward each other . On earth it pulls everything down toward the ground
Friction A force that happens when two surfaces rub against each other. It slows things down or stops them from moving.
