QuestionAnswer
What is the basic unit of the nervous system? The neuron
What is resting membrane potential? The electrical charge difference across the neuron membrane when it is not firing.
What is the synapse? The junction where a neuron communicates with another cell.
What organs make up the CNS? Brain and spinal cord
What is the function of the PNS? Connects the CNS to the rest of the body
What are the 5 main senses? Vision, hearing, smell, taste, touch
What gland is known as the master gland? The pituitary gland
What is the main function of the heart? To pump blood throughout the body
How many chambers are in the heart? Four. The right atrium, right ventricle, left atrium,left ventricle
What is cardiac output? The amount of blood pumped per minute (heart rate times stroke volume).
What is hemostasis? The process of stopping bleeding(clotting).
What are lymph nodes? Small organs that filter lymph and house immune cells.
What is innate immunity? Immediate , nonspecific defense
What is the main function of the respiratory system? Gas exchange -oxygen in , carbon dioxide out.
What is internal respirations? Gas exchange between blood and tissues
