What does M.A.N.I.A stand for? = Militarism, Alliances, Nationalism, Imperialism, Assassination.
What event triggered WWI? = The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand by Gavrilo Princip.
What was the Balkan Powder Keg? = A tense region in Europe where nationalism made war likely.
What were the two major alliances in WWI? = Triple Entente and Triple Alliance.
What was the Schlieffen Plan? = Germany’s plan to attack France through Belgium.
Why did Britain enter WWI? = Germany invaded neutral Belgium.
What did the Treaty of Versailles force Germany to accept? = Full blame, reduced army, reparations, and loss of territory.
What is appeasement? = Giving in to aggressive demands to avoid conflict.
What is Lebensraum? = Hitler’s idea that Germany needed “living space” in Eastern Europe.
What was the Munich Agreement? = Britain and France allowing Germany to take Sudetenland.
What was the Nazi-Soviet Pact? = Germany and USSR agreed not to fight and secretly divide Poland.
What event started WWII? = Germany invading Poland in 1939.
What is blitzkrieg? = Fast “lightning war” using tanks, planes, and infantry.
What was Operation Barbarossa? = Germany’s invasion of the Soviet Union.
What was the Manhattan Project? = The U.S.-led program to develop atomic bombs.
Which cities were bombed with atomic weapons? = Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
What was the Final Solution? = Nazi plan to exterminate the Jewish population.
What was total war? = Using all resources of a society to support the war effort.
