Nerve and Endocrine

QuestionAnswer
What is the main function of the senses? To detect changes in the environment and send information to the brain.
What structure in the eye controls how much light enters? The pupil
What gland is known as the “master gland” of the endocrine system? The pituitary gland.
What does the endocrine system use to send messages through the body? Hormones released into the bloodstream.
Which sense organ contains tiny hair cells that help us hear? The cochlea in the inner ear.
What is the purpose of a regulatory feedback loop in the body? To detect changes and respond in a way that keeps the body in balance (homeostasis).
What is a reflex arc? A fast, automatic pathway where neurons detect a stimulus and quickly send a response.
What triggers a neuron to produce a nerve impulse? A stimulus strong enough to change the neuron’s electrical charge to reach threshold.
What is a nerve impulse? An electrical signal that travels down the neuron’s axon.
How do neurotransmitters work? They are chemicals released by a neuron to send messages across the synapse to the next cell.
