What are micronutrients and macronutrients Micronutrients are nutrients needed in small amounts,e.g minerals,vitimans. Macronutrients are nutrients needed In large amounts,e.g protien,carbs fats,
What is the elemental composition of protien? Hydrogen,carbon,oxygen,nitrogen.
What is nitrogen needed for? Protien is the only nutrient that contains nitrogen,this element is needed for the growth and repair of every cell in the body.
What is protien made up of? Protien is made up of a chain of smaller units called amino acids. Amino acids are linked together by peptide links.
What are enzymes? Enzymes are substances that help chemical reactions,during digestion enzymes break down the peptide links between amino acids.
What is HBV protien (High biological value)Proteins that contain all or most of the essential amino acids,mostly found in animal sources e,g meat.
What is LBV protien? (Low biological value) proteins that do not contain many essential amino acids,commonly found in plant sources,e.g cereals (.the grain)
Name the animal sources of HBV protien Meat,fish,eggs,yogurt,milk,cheese
Name the plant sources of HBV protien Soya beans,meat alternatives e,g mycoprotien.
Name the sources of LBV protien Peas,beans,lentils,nuts,cereals (the grain)
What are the functions of protien Protien is needed for the growth and repair of all body cells (skin,tissue,blood,bones) production of important substances in body r.g hormones,enzymes,and antibodies that fight disease,it produces heat and energy
Name some protien deficiency symptoms Poor or stunted growth,muscle loss,slow healing of wounds,hair breakage and loss,poor general health,hormonal and enzyme imbalances.
