QuestionAnswer
Activity Space the area within which people move about in their daily lives, like work or school
Amnesty A government policy that allows unauthorized immigrants to live legally in a country
Brain drain The emigration of highly skilled individuals, that lead to country of origin to losing the smart people
Chain migration A process where migrants follow family or community members who previously migrated
Circulation Short term, repetitive movement that occur like seasonal jobs
Cotton belt A region in the southern USA where cotton farms dominated
Counterurbanization The people who move from urbanized places to rural places
Emigration To leave country of origin to go to another country
Forced migration People who migrated forced to migrate, push factors
Guest workers People who come from a country to work and then return
Immigration People arriving to a country
Intercontinental migration Migrate over different continents
Internal migration Migrating inside of a country
Interregional migration Migrating from one region to another (inside the country)
Intervening obstacle A barrier or something that halts or stop migration
Intraregional migration Migration within the same overall region and culture
Migration The permanent movement of people from one country to another
Migration transition A model linking the Demographic Transition Model to
Mobility The ability to permanently move or relocate from one place to another
Net migration The total number of people coming into a country Net Migration = Immigration
Place utility The perceived value of a place in regards to itś function (Utility)
Pull factors Factors incentivising people to Immigrate into a country
Push factors Factors incentivising people to migrate out of a country
Quotas a limit on how many people or items enter a country or market
Refugees A person who has been forced to leave their home country due to fear of persecution, or death, and go to another country for safety
Rust belt The northeastern and midwestern region of US that was the industrial core but now Deindustrialized, has declining population, and has economic problems
Sun belt The southern region of US with warm climate, population growth, and economic growth since WWII
Time-contracted workers migrant who moves to another country for a fixed amount of time to work, then often returns home
Unauthorized immigrants Immigrants that immigrated illegally/ weren’t allowed to come but did
Undocumented immigrants Immigrants that immigrated to a place without proper legal documents
Voluntary migration Migration of people based off of their own choices, driven by pull factors
