Force A push or pull
Unbalanced Force A force that is not equal on both sides and causes an object to move
Balanced Forces Equal forces acting on an object; the object does NOT move
Net Force The total amount of force acting on an object; you add or subtract forces depending on their direction
Newton’s First Law of Motion (Law of Inertia) An object at rest will stay at rest, and an object in motion will stay in motion unless a force acts on it.
Inertia The resistance to a change in motion.
Gravity A force that pulls objects toward each other. On Earth, it pulls everything down toward the ground.
Friction A force that happens when two surfaces rub against each other. It slows things down or stops them from moving.
Newton’s 2nd Law There is a relationship between force, mass and acceleration
