QuestionAnswer
What is a melting point? The temperature at which a substance melts.
What is a gas? particles are able to move and spread out filling all space available, thus gases has no definite shape or definite volume.
What is pressure? gas particles constantly collide with one another and the walls of their container. Pressure is the outward push divided by the area of the walls of the container. Pressure= Force/Area.
What is a temperature? the higher the temperature the faster particles moving.
What is a liquid? Particles are free to move so a liquid has a definite volume but no definite shape.
What is a solid? Closely packed particles cause matter to have a definite shape and definite volume.
What is a crystalline solid? Particles form a regular repeating pattern called crystals.
What is a amorphous solid? Particles not arranged in a repeating pattern. Example: Glass, plastic, and rubber.
What is surface tension? An inward force, or pull among the molecules in a liquid that brings the molecules on the surface closer together.
What is Viscosity? A liquid's resistance to flowing.
What is melting When a solid changes to a liquid.
What is Freezing When a liquid turns into a solid.
What is a Freezing point the temperature when a substance freezes.
What is Vaporization When a liquid changes to a gas
what is Evaporation takes place only on the surface of the liquid.
What is Boiling When vaporization occurs both below and at the surface.
What is a Boiling Point Temperature at which a liquid boils.
What is Condensation When a gas changes to a liquid.
What is Sublimation When a substance changes straight from a solid to a gas.
What is Charles’s Law When the temperature of a gas at a constant pressure is increased the volume is increased, if the temperature is decreased then the volume is decreased.
What does Directly proportional mean as one amount increases, another amount increases at the same rate.
What does Boyle's Law mean When the pressure of a gas at a constant temperature is increased the volume is decreases, if the temperature is decreased then the volume is increases.
What does Inversely proportional mean When the value of one variable increases, the other decreases.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
