| synathrotic joints | immovable joints (ex skull) |
| amphiarthrotic | slightly moveable (ex pubic symphysis) |
| diarthrotic (synovial) | freely moveable joints |
| depolarization | Na channels open, inside becomes more positive |
| repolarization | Na channels close, K+ channels open, membrane returns negative |
| hyperpolation | becomes more negative than resting |
| restoration | Na/K+ pumps restore ionic balance |
| dendrites | carry impulses towards the cell body |
| myelin stealth | insulates and speeds nerve conduction (destroyed in MS) |
| nodes of reniver | gaps in myelin that allows faster conduction |
| facile | a bundle of nerve fibers |
| meissner corpuscles | respond to light touch and texture changes |
| free nerve endings | responds to pain and temp, providing general sensory awareness, these receptors send signals through sensory neurons to the central nervous system for intepertation |
| fibrinolysis | dissolves blood clots using plasmin |
| atria | receiving chambers (thin-walled) |
| left Av valve | bicuspid / mitral |
