Physics Definitions

TermDefinition
Convection Heat transfer through a gas or liquid
Radiation Heat transfer through heat waves
Conduction Heat transfer through physical contact.
Energy Comes in 3 types and is the ability to work or heat objects
Gear A simple machine that transfers and modifies rotational force
Wheel and axle `A simple machine that has 2 parts, it puts things in motion
Inclined plane A simple machine that consists of a sloping surface and connects 2 elevations to each other
Screw An inclined plane around a cylinder
Wedge A triangular tool that goes from thick on one side then tapers to a thin or sharp end on the other
Lever A plank or ridged beam that is free to rotate on a pivot
Pully A wheel with a groove and a rope in the groove, it is used to lift or lower heavy objects
