TermDefinition
Axial muscles Muscles along the middle of the body that help you posture, breathe, and move your head and trunk.
Appendicular muscles Muscles on your arms and legs that help you lift, walk, and move your limbs.
Myelin sheath Fatty coating that makes nerve signals travel faster.
Central nervous system (CNS) Brain + spinal cord; main control center.
Photoreceptors Eye cells that detect light.
Cochlea Spiral part of the ear that helps you hear.
Pituitary gland “Master gland” that controls many hormones.
Pulmonary circulation Route that sends blood to the lungs and back.
Macrophages Big immune cells that “eat” germs.
Vital capacity. The biggest breath you can take in and blow out.
