Anatomy week 6-12

TermDefinition
Pulmonary Circulation Blood flow from the heart to the lungs and back.
Platelet A blood cell that helps form clots to stop bleeding.
External Respiration Gas exchange between the lungs and the blood.
Residual Volume The air that stays in the lungs even after forcefully exhaling.
Peristalsis Muscle movements that push food through the digestive tract.
Adaptive Immunity The part of the immune system that learns to recognize specific germs.
Isotonic Contraction A muscle contraction that produces movement, like lifting a weight.
Isometric Contraction A muscle contraction that does not create movement, like holding a plank
Hypothalamus Controls hunger, thirst, temperature, and links the nervous and endocrine systems.
Fascia A thin sheet of connective tissue that surrounds muscles and organs.
