QuestionAnswer
What is the axial muscle group? Muscles that support and move the head, neck and trunk.
What is the origin of a muscle? Fixed attachment point of a muscle
What is the insertion of a muscle? Movable attachment point where the muscle pulls.
What are neurons? Main nerve cells that send electrical signals.
What is a dendrite? The part of the neuron that receives signals.
What is an axon? The part of the neuron that sends signals
What makes up the CNS? The brain, and spinal cord
What makes up the PNS? All nerves outside the brain and spinal cord.
What is the sympathetic division? "Flight or fight" system
What is the retina? Light-sensitive layer of the eye.
What is a sensory receptor? A structure that detects stimuli
What is pituitary gland? The "master gland" that controls other endocrine glands.
What does the pancreas secrete? Insulin and glucagon
What are the upper chambers of the heart? Atria(left and right)
What is the function of the valves? Prevent blood from flowing backward
What are leukocytes? White blood cells that fight infection
What is lymph? Fluid that has leaked out of blood vessels
What is immunity? The body ability to resist disease
What are T-cells? These are cells that attack infected cells directly.
What are B-cells? Immune cells that produce antibodies.
What is the main function of the respiratory system? Gas exchange, bringing in oxygen and removing carbon dioxide.
What is the trachea? Windpipe
What is tidal volume? The amount of air inhaled/exhaled during normal breathing.
