QuestionAnswer
What are axial muscles? Muscles that support and move the head, neck, spine, and trunk. They help with posture and protect internal organs.
What are appendicular muscles? Muscles that move the arms and legs. They attach to the limbs and allow movement like walking, lifting, and reaching.
Neurons The main cells of the nervous system that send electrical signals throughout the body.
Neuroglia (Glial cells) Cells that support, protect, and nourish neurons. They do not send signals but are essential for neuron health.
What is the difference between the CNS and PNS? The CNS includes the brain and spinal cord. The PNS includes all nerves outside the CNS that carry signals to and from the body.
What does the Autonomic Nervous System control? Involuntary actions like heart rate, breathing, digestion, and blood pressure. It includes the sympathetic (fight or flight) and parasympathetic (rest and digest) systems.
Special senses Vision, hearing, taste, smell, and balance—senses that have specific organs dedicated to detection.
What does the endocrine system do? It releases hormones into the bloodstream to control growth, metabolism, stress response, and reproductive functions.
What is the main function of the heart? To pump blood throughout the body, delivering oxygen and nutrients while removing waste like carbon dioxide.
How do the lymphatic/immune system and respiratory system work together? The respiratory system brings in oxygen and traps pathogens, while the immune system fights infections that enter through the airways.
