| conserve | to keep safe from loss, destruction, or waste |
| culture | behavior and beliefs of a group of people |
| archaeology | The study of past human life |
| GPS | global positioning system |
| artifacts | objects made by human beings that are found and removed by archaeologists |
| archaeologists | Scientists who work in the field of archaeology |
| material culture | physical remains that archaeologists find. EX: stone tools, written records |
| features | remains that cannot be removed. EX: pyramids, post holes |
| strata | layers of the soil that develop around the artifact |
| preserve | to maintain in a relatively unchanged condition |
| technology | a field of knowledge having to do with methods of solving problems through research in science. |
| theory | an idea or claim based on evidence that is used to explain something; a view or opinion that has not been proven |
| reveals | to show or uncover |
