What are the muscles of the abdominal wall? External oblique, internal oblique, transversus abdominis, rectus abdominis
What are the two divisions of the autonomic nervous system and what do they contol? Sympathetic division: "fight-or-flight" Parasympathetic division: "rest-and-repair"
What is the peripheral nervous system? Nerve tissues in outer regions. Afferent: incoming sensory info pathways. Efferent: outgoing motor info pathways.
What is the central nervous system? structural/functional center of entire nervous system, brain & spinal cord
What are the endocrine glands? Hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid, pineal, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal glands, gonads, pancreas, thymus
What is the hypothalamus? control center, makes ADH & oxytocin
What is a nociceptor? nerve fibers that carry pain impulses to the brain
What is a baroreceptor? info in nerves that tell the brain how much stretch there is in the blood vessels
What are the four chambers of the heart? Right atrium, left atrium, right ventricle, left ventricle
What is lymph? leftover blood plasma that seeped through capillaries and must be cycled and returned to the blood.
