What are the two main cell types in the nervous system? Neurons and neuroglia (glial cells).
What is myelin? A fatty covering around axons that speeds up nerve impulse transmission.
Includes the brain and spinal cord; responsible for integration and control. Central Nervous System (CNS)
All nerves outside the CNS; carries messages to and from the body. Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)
What is the function of the autonomic nervous system (ANS)? Controls involuntary actions like heart rate, digestion, and breathing.
Sensory receptors that respond to pressure, touch, and vibration. Mechanoreceptors
What is the purpose of the endocrine system? To control body functions using hormones released into the blood.

What is the main function of white blood cells (WBCs)? To fight infections and protect the body.
Small filters along lymphatic vessels that trap pathogens and support immune responses. Lymph Nodes
What is passive immunity? Immunity gained through antibodies given to a person, not made by their own body.
What muscle controls inhalation? The diaphragm contracts and moves downward to pull air into the lungs.
Tiny air sacs in the lungs where gas exchange (oxygen and carbon dioxide) occurs. Alveoli
