What is the primary function of hemoglobin? To bind and transport oxygen
Which WBCs are the most abundant? Neutrophils
What are the main functions of the lymphatic system? Fluid balance, immunity, and absorption of dietary fats.
What is lymph? Excess interstitial fluid that enters lymphatic vessels.
Which organ filters lymph? Lymph nodes
What is the main function of the heart? To pump blood throughout the body.
What is the pacemaker of the heart? The sinoatrial (SA) node.
What prevents blood backflows? Heart valves.
What are the two types of immunity? Nonspecific (innate) and specific (adaptive)
What cells produce antibodies? Plasma cells (from B lymphocytes).
What is external respiration? Gas exchange between alveoli and blood
What muscle is responsible for inhalation? The diaphragm
What are the accessory organs of digestion? Livefr, gallbladder, pancreas
What is metabolism? All chemical reactions in the body
What is ATP? The main energy carrier molecule.
What are the kidneys' main function? Filtration, waste removal, fluid & electrolyte balance
What is the major extracellular cation? Sodium
What gland is the 'master gland"? The pituitary gland
What is the two main divisions of the nervous system? Central (CNS) and peripheral (PNS).
What is a synapse? A junction where nerons communicates
What organ is responsible for hearing? The cochlea in the inner ear
What are the three types of muscle? Skeletal, cardiac, smooth
What is the basic unit of the muscle? the sarcomere
