| Periosteum | Thin membrane that covers and protects; blood vessels and nerves |
| Compact bone | Hard bone that provides structure to bones |
| Cancellous bone | Porous bone aka sponge bone; it contains blood vessels and marrow. |
| Marrow | Soft jelly like center of bones |
| Yellow marrow | Produces fat cells cartilage and bone |
| Red marrow | Produces platelets and red blood cells and white blood cells |
| Joint | Any place where any two bones come together |

| Cartilage | A rubbery connective tissue that cushions bones; located at joints |
| Ligament | Connective tissue that attaches bone to bone |
