Capillaries Microscopic blood vessels where gas and nutrients exchange occurs
Lymphatic system Network that returns tissue fluid to blood and provides immune defense
Lacteals Specialized lymph vessels in the small intestine that absorb fats
Spleen Organ that filters blood and stores immune cells
Kidneys Organs that filter blood to remove waste and regular fluid balance
Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) Hormone that increases blood calcium levels
Insulin Hormone that lowers blood glucose levels by promoting cellular uptake of glucose
Peristalsis Wave like muscle contractions that move food through the digestive tract
Bile Digestive fluid produced by the liver that emulsifies fats
Gallbladder Organ that stores and concentrates bile
Autonomic Nervous System Division of the nervous system controlling involuntary body functions
