What is the main function of the autonomic nervous system ? (ANS) It regulates involuntary body functions such as heart rate, digestion, and breathing
What does the parasympathetic division of the ANS do? It promotes "rest and digest" responses, lowering heart rate and supporting digestion
What is the function of the hearts left ventricle ? It pumps oxygenated blood to the entire body through the aorta
What is the endocrine systems primary role? To release hormones that regulate growth, metabolism, reproduction, and homeostasis.
What is the purpose of red blood cells? To carry oxygen from the lungs to tissues and remove carbon dioxide
What organ is the main controller of long term blood pressure ? The kidneys.
What is the main function of the lymphatic system? It returns excess fluid to the bloodstream and supports immune defense
What happens during inhalation? The diaphragm contracts and moves downward, allowing the lungs to expand and fill with air
What is the primary function of the small intestine? To complete digestion and absorb nutrients into the bloodstream
What does the nephron do in the kidneys? It filters blood, removes waste, and forms urine
