What does the central nervous system (CNS) include? The brain and the spinal cord.
What is the main function of the peripheral nervous system? (PNS) To carry sensory information to the CNS and motor commands away from the CNS.
What are the two divisions of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS)? The sympathetic (fight or flight) and parasympathetic rest and digest systems.
Which general senses are detected throughout the body? Touch, pain, pressure, temperature, and proprioception.
What is the main function of the endocrine system? To release hormones into the bloodstream that regulate body functions like growth, metabolism, and reproduction.
What is the main function of the heart? To pump blood throughout the body to deliver oxygen and nutrients.
What is plasma? The liquid portion of blood that carries nutrients, hormones, and waste products.
What is the purpose of the lymphatic system? To return excess fluid to the bloodstream and help with immune defense.
What is the role of white blood cells? To protect the body by fighting infections and foreign invaders.
What is the primary function of the immune system? To recognize and destroy pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, and toxins.
