| Insulin | A hormone produced by the pancreas that helps move glucose from the blood stream into cells |
| Trachea | A flexible airway tube reinforced with C-shaped cartilage rings that carries air from the larynx to the bronchi |
| Aorta | The largest artery in the body that carries oxygen rich blood from the left ventricle to the rest of the body |
| Villi | Tiny, finger like projections lining the small intestine that increase surface area for nutrient absorption |
| Bronchioles | Small airway branches that stem from the bronchi and lead to the alveoli in the lungs |
| Pleura | A double layered membrane surrounding the lungs that reduces friction during breathing |
| Epiglottis | A flap of cartilage that covers the trachea during swallowing to prevent food from entering the airway |
| Nuclei | Small distinct regions of gray matter in the CNS |
| vestibule | Bony labyrinth structure containing the utricle and saccule |
| Fascia | general term for the fibrous connective tissue found under the skin and around muscle |
