What are the four pairs of muscles that act together to compress the abdominal contents? external oblique, internal oblique, transverse abdominis, and rectus abdominis.
What is the main function of the diaphragm? contracts during inhalation and moves downward, as well as acts as a barrier between the thoracic and abdominal cavity.
What is a disorder that affects the thyroid gland? hypothyroidism affects the thyroid by creating an underactive thyroid where patients experience undersecretion of hormones T4 and T3.
What is the pineal gland? small, pincone-shaped gland located in the anterior neck, just below the larynx and secretes thyroxine T4 and triiodothyronine T3.
Where is one location that blood enters into the heart during the cardiovascular circuit? Superior vena cava.
What is a heart murmur? turbulent blood flow in the heart. determined by timing, shape, location, radiation, intensity, pitch, and quality.
What is delayed cord clamping? delaying the time to cutting the umbilical cord from infant to ensure optimum blood volume and nutrients is given to infant.
What structure is the site of maturation for T lymphocytes? Thymus gland
Is the lymphatic draining system a one-way flow or closed system? one-way flow
What is one component of the respiratory system ? the lungs, which are cone shaped organs and are large enough to fill the expanse of the thoracic cavity.
What are alveoli? tiny air sacs where gas exchange happens.
