What are the three major connective wrappings of a skeletal muscle, from deep to superficial? 1. Endomysium 2.Perimysium 3.Epimysium
What are the points of attachment and function of the Diaphragm? origin on the xyphoid process, lower ribs, and lumbar vertebrae. it is the prime mover of inspiration; flattens upon contraction, increasing thoracic volume.
What are the two main subdivisions of the nervous system, and what are their components? Central Nervous System: Brain and Spinal Cord (integration/command center). Peripheral Nervous System: Nerves (Cranial and spinal) and ganglia.
Differentiate between the Somatic Nervous System and Autonomic Nervous System SNS: controls voluntary muscles. ANS: controls involuntary cardiac muscle, smooth muscle, and glands.
what are the five lobes of the cerebrum? 1.Frontal, 2. parietal, 3. temporal, 4. occipital, 5. insula (deep to temporal lobe)
what is the primary neurotransmitter released by all preganglionic neurons (both sympathetic and parasympathetic)? Acetylcholine (ACh). They are cholinergic
what structures in the inner ear are responsible for detecting static equilibrium and linear acceleration? the Maculae located in the saccule utricle
what is the "Master Gland" of the endocrine system and where is it located? The Pituitary Gland (Hypophysis), located in the sella turcica of the sphenoid bone, inferior to the hypothalamus
where are the adrenal glands located? sitting on top of the superior surface of each kidney (often called suprarenal glands)
what is the primary hormone produced by the thyroid gland that regulates metabolism? Thyroxine (T4)
what are the two structures in the fetal heart that bypasses the pulmonary circulation? 1. Foramen Ovale: shunts blood from RA to LA. 2. Ductus Arteriosus: shunts blood from pulmonary trunk to aorta.
what are three main functions of lymphatic system? 1. fluid balance 2. fat absorption 3. immunity
what are two main functions of lymph nodes? 1. filtration 2. immune system activation
which class of antibody is the most abundant and can cross the placenta? IgG
