What is the cisterna chyli? The cisterna chyli is a sac-like lymphatic vessel located deep in the abdomen that acts as a collection point for lymph fluid from the lower body and abdomen before it enters the thoracic duct.
Where does lymph enter the blood vascular system? The thoracic duct, The right lymphatic duct
What is chyle? a milky-white fluid composed of lymph and emulsified fats, created in the small intestine during digestion
Explain the function of the thymus. primary function is the maturation and selection of T cells to ensure they can fight infections effectively without attacking the body's own tissues
Define the term innate immunity. the body's first line of defense against infection, providing a rapid and non-specific response that is present from birth
Explain the function of an NK cell. white blood cells that destroy infected and diseased cells
What is the function of interferon? proteins that act as a natural antiviral and immune-boosting defense in the body
Explain the function of memory cells. remember particular antigens so, if they appear in your body in the future, your immune system can mount a defense quickly
What are cytokines? small proteins secreted by cells that act as messengers, regulating cell-to-cell communication to control the immune response and other physiological processes like inflammation, cell growth, and differentiation
What are monoclonal antibodies? lab-made proteins that act like the body's natural antibodies to fight diseases
