QuestionAnswer
What are atoms? Atoms are tiny particles that make up a substance.
What is a molecule? A molecule is two or more atoms chemically combined.
What is a element? Elements are simple substances that consist of only one type of atom
What is a compound? A compound contains two or more different elements chemically combined, compounds are very difficult to separate once it is formed.
What is a mixture? Mixtures contain two or more substances mixed together but not chemically combined, mixtures are usually easy to separate.
What is a so,ution? A solution is a type of mixture in which a substance (solute) has completely dissolved into another substance(solvent)
What is a solute? A solute is a substance that dissolves into a solvent to make a solution.
What is a solvent? A solvent is a substance that dissolves another material(a solute) to make a solution.
What is a solution? A solution is a mixture in which a solute has dissolved into a solvent.
What does soluble and insoluable mean? Soluble is a solid that can dissolve into a solvent,if it cannot dissolve it is insoluble.
What are the properties of a compound? Two or more elements chemically combine to form a new substance Elements in a compound are chemically bonded, they are difficult to separate. The properties of the compound are different to the properties of the elements it contains.
What are the properties of a mixture? Two or more substances mixed together but not chemically combined Substances in a mixture are not chemically bonded, they are easy to separate In a mixture, each substance retains its indivividual properties.
What is a concentrated solution? A concentrated solution has a large amount of solute dissolved into a small amount of solvent.
What is a dilute solution? A dilute solution has a small amount of solute dissolved into a large amount of solvent.
What is solubility? Solubility is the amount of a substance (grams) that will dissolve into 100cm3 of a solvent at a specific temperature. It is measured in g/cm3
What is a saturated solution? A Saturated solution contains as much solute as possible at a given temperature.
How does temperature affect solubility? Temperature affects how much solute a solvent can dissolve, when liquids are heated, the particles gain energy and move more, allowing more solid particles to be dissolved. Increasing the temp increases solubility, decreasing the temp decreases the solubility
What are crystals? Crystals are solid particles where the molecules fit together in a repeating pattern.
What is crystallisation? Crystallisation is the formation of crystals when a staturated solution cools.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
