What is sepsis? A life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated immune response to infection
What hormone regulates blood glucose by promoting cellular uptake of glucose? Insulin
What is the function of the nephron? To filter blood and form urine within the kidneys
Which organ produces bile? The liver
What is peristalsis? Wave-like muscle contractions that move food through the digestive tract
What cells are responsible for producing antibodies? B lymphocytes (plasma cells)
What is innate immunity? The body's non-specific, first-line defense against pathogens
What is the role of hemoglobin? To bind and transport oxygen in red blood cells
What is tidal volume? he amount of air inhaled or exhaled during a normal breath
What structure is responsible for gas exchange in the lungs? The alveoli
