What do axial and appendicular muscles do? axial-support and move the head, neck and trunk appendicular-move arms and legs
What is the job of a neuron? To send and receive signals in the body
What organs make up the CNS? The brain and spinal cord
What does the ANS control? Automatic body functions like heart rate and digestion
What does the endocrine system make? Hormones that control body functions
What are the three main parts of blood? Red, white blood cells and platelets
What does the lymphatic system do? Drains fluids and fights infections
What is the main job of the lungs? Brings oxygen in and removes carbon dioxide
What does the immune system do? Protects the body from germs
What are the two major cell types in the nervous system? Neurons and neuroglia/glial cells
What are the two divisions of the ANS and what do they do? Sympathetic (fight or flight) increases heart rate, dilates pupils Parasympathetic (rest and digest) slows HR, increases digestion
