What is the outermost layer of the skin called, and what is its main function? Epidermis
What type of bone is the femur, and why is it classified that way? Long bone; it is longer than it is wide and supports weight and movement.
What is the primary difference between skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle? Skeletal
Which organ produces bile, and what is bile’s main function? Liver; bile emulsifies fats to aid in digestion
What is the functional unit of the kidney, and what does it do? Nephron; it filters blood to produce urine.
Name the primary lymphoid organs and their main functions. Thymus (T-cell maturation) and bone marrow (B-cell maturation and blood cell production).
Which vessel carries blood away from the heart, and which carries blood to the heart? Arteries carry blood away; veins carry blood to the heart.
In males, which structure produces sperm, and in females, which structure releases eggs? Testes produce sperm; ovaries release eggs (ova)
What are the two main divisions of the nervous system? Central nervous system
Which system works closely with the circulatory system to transport oxygen to tissues and remove carbon dioxide? Respiratory system
