How does the diaphragm contribute to ventilation? Contraction of the diaphragm increases thoracic volume, reducing pressure and drawing air into the lungs; relaxation decreases volume, pushing air out.
How does hemoglobin facilitate oxygen transport? Hemoglobin binds oxygen in the lungs and releases it in tissues, increasing blood oxygen-carrying capacity.
