Old Testament final

QuestionAnswer
Why should we study the Old Testament (OT)? It is the Bible; We are commanded to (2 Tim. 2:15); It has a direct relationship to the New Testament (NT); It provides historical background for Christianity; It is Authoritative; For personal education (encouragement, instruction).
What internal evidence is used to affirm the OT's authority? The use of terms like: Scripture (holy writing, e.g., John 5:39); Oracles of God (authoritative words, e.g., Rom. 3:2); The phrase Law (speaks of authority, e.g., Matt. 5:17).
How does the Lord Jesus Christ's view affirm the OT's authority? He confirms the OT is historically true (e.g., Matt. 24:37-39) and treats it as authoritative.
How do the Apostles and NT writers affirm the OT's authority? By quoting it extensively (an estimated 295 quotations and many allusions); Approximately 10% of the NT text is OT material.
What is the main conclusion regarding the authority of the OT? Since the OT is authoritative, followers of Jesus should be diligent in its study and application.
