Why is blood red? Hemoglobin contains iron that reflects red wave lengths of light.
Which structures supply blood to the myocardium itself? Coronary arteries and cardiac veins.
Which divisions are included when the nervous system is subdivided by structure? Central nervous system composed of brain and spinal cord and the peripheral nervous system composed of cranial, spinal, and peripheral nerves.
Which effectors are controlled by efferent pathways from the CNS? sketal muscles, smooth and cardiac muscles via autonomic pathways and glands.
Which structures are included in the central nervous system? spinal cord and brain
Which glial cell is described as the most abundant in the CNS? astrocyte
Which brain areas are named for language and speech funcions? Wernicke's area for language comprehension and broca's area for speech production
Define afferent and efferent neurons alignment with the reflex arc? Efferent neurons carry motor information from the CNS to effectors and afferent neurons carry sensory information to the CNS.
What is the purpose of the arteries and the veins? Arteries always carry blood away from the heart regardless of oxygen content and the veins return blood to the heart.
Why does the venous blood sometimes appear blue under the skin? Light refraction through skin creates an optical illusion.
