Comparative and superlative degrees of irregular adjectives

Este restaurante es (better than) el otro. Este restaurante es mejor que el otro. This restaurant is better than the other. Mejor is the irregular comparative of bueno for quality.
Hoy es un día (worse than) ayer. Hoy es un día peor que ayer. Today is a worse day than yesterday. Peor is the irregular comparative of malo.
Mi hermano es (older than) yo. Mi hermano es mayor que yo. My brother is older than I am. Mayor is used for age or hierarchy, not size.
Mi primo es (younger than) su hermana. Mi primo es menor que su hermana. My cousin is younger than his sister. Menor is the irregular form of pequeño for age.
Este coche es (better than) el anterior. Este coche es mejor que el anterior. This car is better than the previous one. Mejor evaluates overall quality or performance.
Este plan es (worse than) el anterior. Este plan es peor que el anterior. This plan is worse than the previous one. Peor replaces más malo.
Jorge es (kinder than) Pedro. Jorge es más bueno que Pedro. Jorge is kinder than Pedro. Regular form is used when describing personal character.
Este café es (better than) ese. Este café es mejor que ese. This coffee is better than that one. Irregular form is used for general evaluation.
Mi abuelo es (the oldest) de la familia. Mi abuelo es el mayor de la familia. My grandfather is the oldest in the family. Mayor is used with superlatives of age.
Ella es (the youngest) del grupo. Ella es la menor del grupo. She is the youngest of the group. Menor expresses the lowest age ranking.
Este es el (best) libro. Este es el mejor libro. This is the best book. Superlative form of bueno.
Este es el (worst) error. Este es el peor error. This is the worst mistake. Superlative form of malo.
La casa de Ana es (bigger than) la mía (in size). La casa de Ana es más grande que la mía. Ana’s house is bigger than mine. Más grande is used for physical size, not age.
Luis es (older than) su hermano. Luis es mayor que su hermano. Luis is older than his brother. Age comparison uses mayor.
El examen de hoy fue (worse than) el de ayer. El examen de hoy fue peor que el de ayer. Today’s exam was worse than yesterday’s. Peor communicates negative comparison.
Este barrio es (better than) el otro. Este barrio es mejor que el otro. This neighborhood is better than the other. Mejor replaces más bueno in objective judgment.
