What is schizophrenia characterized by? Altered cognition, altered perception, and impaired reality testing
Delusional disorder criteria False thoughts and beliefs that have lasted 1 month or longer, delusions including grandiose, persecutory somatic and referential themes. However, they are not severe enough to impact functioning
Brief psychotic disorder criteria Sudden onset of one of the following: Delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, catatonic behavior
What is the duration criteria for brief psychotic disorder Duration must last longer than 1 day, but no longer than 1 month, with expectation to return to normal function
Schizophreniform disorder Exactly like that of schizophrenia, but symptoms have lasted less than 6 months. May or may not return to normal function
Schizoaffective disorder Hx of mood disorders concurrent with sx that meet the criteria for schizophrenia
Schizophrenia DSM-5 Criteria Schizophrenia sx for a significant portion of the month, for atleast 6 months
Where is schizophrenia most often diagnosed? Urban areas
What is schizophrenia most commonly comorbid with? SUD, Diabetes, polydipsia
What is the prodromal phase of schizophrenia? Mild changes
First generation antipsychotics treat what symptoms? Positive
Second Generation antipsychotics treat what symptoms? Positive and negative
Cognitive symptoms are Subtle or obvious impairment in memory, attention, and or thinking.
Affective sx Symptoms including emotions and their expression.
