Similarity
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Dilation | Transformation that enlarges or reduces the original figure proportionally. Is a similarity transformation because it produces a similar figure |
| Ratio (Scale factor) | The comparison between side lengths in two similar figures |
| Proportion | a pair of equivalent ratios |
| Geometric Mean | The average of a set of values calculated using their products rather than sum |
| Similar Polygons | Result of a dilatation, figures have congruent corresponding angles and proportional side lengths |
| Corresponding Parts | The congruent angles pairs and proportional sides |
| Side-Side-Side (SSS~) | If all 3 corresponding sides form = ratios than the triangles are similar |
| Side - Angle Side (SAS ~) | If twos sets of corresponding sides are proportional and the included triangles are congruent then the triangles are similar. |
| Angle - Angle (AA ~) | If 2 sets of corresponding angles are congruent then the triangles are similar. |
| Midsegment Theorem | The segment connecting the midpoint of a triangle is parallel to the 3rd side of triangle |
