How many bones in the elbow? 3 bones
What are the 3 bones in the elbow? Humerus, Ulna, and Radius
What is the radius? Smaller forearm bone (thumb side)
What is the Ulna? Larger of the the two forearm bones (pinky side)
What is the Humerus? Upper arm that forms top joint
What is the Hinge Joint? Gingcymus joint 1 degree of freedom Flexion + Extension
Articular Cartilage Smooth Protective tissue Most Abundant Covers the ends of the bones where they meet Bathed in synovial fluid Not Vascular
Elastic Cartilage Least Abundant
Fibrous Cartilage Found in high load regions
Humeroradial Joint Formed by humerous & radius Contributes to Flexion + Extension Involved in Supination + Pronation
Humeroulnar Joint Formed by humerous + ulna Allows for Flexion + Extension
Proximal Radioulnar Joint Formed where the radius + ulna meet at the ellbow Allows lower arm to rotate
Ulnar (medial) Collateral Liagment Connects the ulna + humerous on the inner side of the elbow
Radiul (lateral) Collater Liagment Connects the radius + humerus inner side of elbow
Annular Liagment Ring like liagment that surrounds the head of the radius Holding against the ulna
Quadrate Liagment Connects the radius + ulna along their shifts
Joint Capsule Fibrous sac that encloses the elbow joint
Collateral Liagments Prevent shifting in the frontal plane Holding liner allignment
Synovial Membrane Lines the inside of the joint capsule Produces synovial fluid
Synovial Fluid Viscous (Thick/Sticky) that lubricates the joint for smooth movement
