| aqueduct | a network of bridges and canals that carry water from place to place |
| barbarian | a person in a culture believed by those in another culture to be savage, primitive, or uncivilized. |
| census | a count of a country's people |
| chariot | in ancient times, a two-wheeled horse-drawn vehicle driven from a standing position. |
| citizen | A person belonging to and having the rights of a particular country. |
| coliseum | a large building or amphitheater used for entertainment events, sports, or the like. |
| gladiator | a slave or prisoner forced to fight, often to the death, for the amusement of an audience. |
| monarch | Someone who rules over a country, usually for life and by heredity. |
| peninsula | portion of land nearly surrounded by water, but connected to a larger body of land. |
