Federalism Vocabulary Flashcards

TermDefinition
Federalism A way of governing in which power is divided/shared among all three levels of government
Reserved Powers Powers specifically for the states. Example: Education/Election Laws
Florida Declaration of Rights Florida’s Bill of Rights, located in the Florida Constitution
State Legislator A representative or senator at the STATE level; responsible for creating statutes
Statute A law written by the state legislative branch
Governor Chief executive at the state level who prepares the state budget and appoints officials.
Florida Supreme Court the highest Court in Florida composed of seven Justices
City Council This group makes the laws for city & county governments
Mayor The elected executive of a city, village, or town
County Court The court system of a specific county that hears criminal & civil cases
