atomic # a number next to the chemical symbol that show the amount of protons and electrons
period a horizontal row of elements on the periodic table
group or family the elements that have the same features and v.e.
noble gases group # 18 on the periodic table
halogens group # 17 on the periodic table
alkali metals group # 1 on the periodic table
ions an atom or molecule with a net electrical charge
ionic bond a chemical bond formed by the electrostatic attraction between oppositely charged ions
covalent bond a chemical bond in which atoms share pairs of electrons to achieve a stable outer electron shell
