Week Fifteen

TermDefinition
Introduction The first part of a piece of writing that grabs the reader’s attention and tells what the writing will be about.
Body Paragraphs The middle paragraphs of an essay that give the main ideas and supporting details.
Conclusion The final paragraph that restates the main idea and wraps up the writing.
Thesis A sentence in the introduction that clearly states the writer’s main point or claim.
Extended Response A longer answer that explains your thinking using evidence, details, and complete sentences.
Editing Fixing mistakes in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and capitalization in your writing.
Topic Sentence The first sentence of a paragraph that tells what the paragraph will be about.
Supporting Details Facts, examples, and explanations that help prove or explain the main idea.
Outlining Planning your writing by organizing your ideas in order before you start your draft.
Quote Words taken directly from a text or speaker, usually shown with quotation marks.
