Nervous System Quiz
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Function | Takes inputs and processes them |
| Steps | 1. Information in (sensory), 2. information integrated or processing (integration), 3. information out (motor output). |
| Central Nervous System | In charge of processing or integration |
| Peripheral Nervous System | Away from spinal cord and brain, sensory input and motor output. |
| Sensory (afferent) | somatic - muscles, skin, bones, and joints & visceral - internal organs |
| Motor (efferent) | SNS and ANS, SNS is in charge of voluntary. |
| ANS Nervous System | Involuntary, Sympathetic (Fight, Flight, or Freeze) main job is to keep the body alive from physical harm. Parasympathetic - Rest and Digest. Cannot do primary thinking. |
| CNS Neuroglia | Oligodendrocytes - make myelin, astrocytes - structural support, microglia - phagocytosis + cleaning up, Ependyma - cerebra spinal fluid |
| PNS Neuroglia | Schwann Cells - make myelin, Satellite cells - support. |
| Potential Difference | Charge difference created by K, Na, and Ca |
| Polarized Membrane | Difference in membrane |
| Resting potential | -70 mV, nerve does not send an impulse |
| Threshold | What we get to send a message, Na channels start to open |
| Action potential | impulse is sent when it gets action potential |
| Refractory period | Reset period, gates close |
| Hyper-polarization | Undershoot due to K channels being slow |
| Graded potential | Graded potential, electrical charges or ions that excite or inhibit |
| Absolute | no stimulus no impulse |
| Relative | Impulse has to be stronger to send the message. |
