QuestionAnswer
Anarchy The absence of any form of government. can cause a state of lawlessness or political disorder. In the 19th century it was used to describe a utopian society that had no government.
Direct democracy A form of government where each citizen has an actual say in the affairs of government. - assemblies of citizens or where citizens vote on issues - citizens have more specific ways to control politics
representative democracy A form of government where citizens elect representatives to make decisions for them.
Monarchy A form of government led by a king or a queen. - undivided sovereignty, ruled by a single person - Supreme authority is given to a monarch who is the head of state, achieving their position through heredity.
Socialist Type of government where individuals and government share ownership in major businesses and government takes on a greater role in citizen’s lives -things people produce is a social product, those who contribute to the production is entitled to share it.
Communist the government own/controls all aspects of life for citizens. -Profit based economy; public ownership/control of major means of production and natural resources -command economy; state controls property, bureaucrats control wages, prices, and production
Dictatorship Type of government that is usually controlled by one person who allows very little freedom or opposition. -Leaders use force/fraud to gain power -Imitation, terror, and suppression of civil liberties -propaganda
Totalitarianism/Authoritarianism Form of gov. where little freedom/opposition is allowed. -All aspects of life left up to authority of state -Absolute oppressive single party gov
Oligarchy Ruled by small group of people (mainly wealthy) for corrupt/selfish purposes
Theocracy Type of gov ruled by religious leaders -Legal system based off religious law -Typical in early civilization
