QuestionAnswer
Ductility A material's ability to deform under tensile stress without breaking, allowing it to be stretched into a wire.
Malleability the ability of a material to be hammered, rolled, or pressed into thin sheets or other shapes without breaking or cracking under compressive stress
weight a body's relative mass or the quantity of matter contained by it, giving rise to a downward force; the heaviness of a person or thing.
Density the degree of compactness of a substance.
Intensive properties physical characteristics of a substance that do not depend on the amount of matter present
Extensive properties a physical property whose magnitude depends on the size or amount of the system, meaning it is additive for subsystems.
Chemical properties a characteristic that describes a substance's ability to undergo a chemical reaction and transform into a new substance.
meniscus the curved upper surface of a liquid in a tube.
measurement the action of measuring something.
volume the amount of space that a substance or object occupies, or that is enclosed within a container, especially when great.
Water displacement method Water displacement methoda technique used to find the volume of an irregularly shaped object by submerging it in water and measuring the volume of water it pushes aside (displaces).
Graduated cylinder a tall, narrow container with markings along its side to precisely measure the volume of a liquid.
Solute the minor component in a solution, dissolved in the solvent.
Solvent able to dissolve other substances.
