Why did the Greeks prefer sea travel over land travel? Mountains made land travel difficult.
What was a polis? A city, its harbor, and surrounding farmland.
Who could vote in Athens? Male adult citizens who owned land.
What is the difference between Athens and Sparta in government? Athens = direct democracy, lottery system; Sparta = aristocracy, elected rulers.
Why did Greeks establish colonies? To find farmland and resources.
