| Constitutional monarchy: | A country with a king or queen, but their power is limited by laws and a constitution. |
| Elections: | When citizens vote to choose their leaders. |
| Candidate: | A person who wants to be chosen for a job in government. |
| Parliament: | The main law‑making body in a country. |
| Coalition: | When two or more political parties join together to form a government. |
| House of Representatives: | The part of Australia’s Parliament where members are elected to represent the people. |
| Australian Constitution: | The set of rules that explains how Australia is governed. |
