what is a nucleoid? non-membrane enclosed region in a prokaryotic cell where its chromosomes are located
what are chromatin? eukaryotic chromatin that remains highly compacted during interphase and is generally not transcribed
what is euchromatin? the less condensed form of eukaryotic chromatin that is available for transcription
what are histones? proteins responsible for 1st level of DNA packing in chromatin
what is a nucleosome? consists of DNA wound twice around a protein core of 8 histones, 2 of each being the main histone types
