Allegory of the Cave

The Theme of the Allegory (Hint: “Ignorance is Bliss”) is Most people are comfortable in their ignorance and hostile to anyone who points it out.
Light and Dark represent light represents truth and knowledge and dark represents ignorance
What could the shackles on the prisoners represent? Money difficulties not allowing one to travel, Lack of education for whatever reason,Painful memories from the past stopping someone from moving on,Oppression from an outside force or group
What is real to the prisoners in the cave? Shadows
What kinds of things do the people carry in the cave? statues, carvings, artifacts
What does the sun represent? truth and knowledge
When someone becomes free and comes out of the cave, what must they look at first? reflections of the sun and people
When the man is first freed, how does he feel or act? disoriented
How does that man react to finding out about the shadows? with denial
Why would the man consider going back to the cave? He's familiar, used to, and comfortable in the cave
What is the final outcome for the man? The returned prisoner is killed by his former fellow prisoners when he tries to free them. The returned prisoner is not believed by the other prisoners; they'd rather kill him then know that which is too hard for them to believe.
What is an allegory? a story, poem, picture, etc. that uses characters (real or imaginary), objects, and events that symbolize people, ideas, and events that reveal deeper meaning and hidden truths about life.
What is the meaning of treachery in the caption? deceptive in nature
What is the translation of the words below the painting? This is not a pipe.
Why is this caption surprising? It contradicts the painting.
