| Constitution | Document with basic set of principles and laws that states the powers and duties of a government |
| Articles of confederation | The first written form of government that said Congress would be one the single branch of national government, but would have limited powers in order to protect liberties of the people |
| Daniel Shays | A farmer, fed up with taxes and heavy debt who led a rebellion and forced a shutdown of the supreme court in Springfield, massachusettes |
| James Madison | Attended and took detailed notes at the constitutional convention |
| Legislative branch | Congress- make laws |
